You know what is really annoying me lately? All this talk about how bad the economy is. Now, I’m no colledge proffessor but, I do know this, that the cost of products on the market are directly affected by the simple formula of supply and demand. However, consider this, what makes the cost of the basic materials that produce those products go up?
I think it is a simple matter of the owners of the supply companies wanting to make TOO much money. Now, I’m not talking about enough money to keep the bills paid and the kids in school and invested for retirement and the kids’ further education. No, what I’m referring to is these multi-BILLION dollar companies that the owners of which spend EXUBERANT ammounts of money on things that don’t matter, material things. Things that you or I, that is the “common” folk, would have absolutely NO use for. I mean really, when is a car TOO MUCH car? And when do you need so much square footage INside your house that most of us have on their WHOLE property!? And let’s not forget those individuals that own the companies that just KNOW that they can charge us whatever they want for a product and there are those out there that will pay it, no matter what it is!
I know of one such person, who shall remain nameless, but who, not long ago, attempted to buy up as much land as they could, trying to coax people who already lived on the property, just so that they could boast having THAT much land in their posession. Now, on top of that, it is a public fact that this person also was at one time, voted the richest person in the nation, if not the world. (I say it that way because I personaly do not know how far up the scale they got for their assets.)
If we look at the way things are, I think we can all clearly see that if there were just more focus on how much wealth we need to live comfortably and without all the “extras”, then I think that the economy would settle down, if not become alot more stable. I mean that if we as a whole, would just think of how much we might need to have what we want, with a REASONABLE ammount of extras, then things would work alot more smoothly. For instance, I was talking with my wife and noted the fact that if, I knew I had a steady even income, salary if you will, of say, $50,000/year, that I/we could live really well, within what we feel is best for our way of living. Now, compare that to the family who parents give in to every request/demand their children make on what they just CAN’T live without and who also, just HAVE to have the biggest, most UNeconomical vehicle they can buy, just because they wanted it, then I think the overall image I’m trying to convey becomes quite clear.
Now, since I’ve probably offended and angered many of you, that was not my intent. Rather it was my focus of this rant to get more people to talk about this whole economic mess and seriously reevaluate just at what point we can realisticly and reasonably say, “Okay, we make plenty of money and can live quite well and comfortable on what we make as well as see the kids through school and our retirement, so, we really don’t NEED alot more than what we have and make.” Then, guess what? If the big corporation owners thought like that, it would cost about, oh, $20 for the new version of Windows© or how about a new car costing around $8-$10,00 at most? Even for a really NICE one?
Okay, that is about all I wanted to say, so let me have it now, as I’m sure many of you will react to this little prattle I have put down here in print, but if nothing else, if I have managed to provoke even a few people to really THINK about all this, as well as perhaps one or two of those BIG BOYS I mentioned, then, perhaps, just maybe we can begin to get this country and the economic situation we’re in, back on track and in a more progressive and profitable direction. Thank you and God Bless.
